When families consider a school, their focus often includes the curriculum, quality of teaching and community values. But just as important is the environment children experience outside school hours – where friendships flourish, creativity is celebrated and confidence grows.

Catholic Early EdCare’s Outside School Hours Care (OSHC) services are a vibrant part of school communities across southeast Queensland. With programs offered before and after school, and during school holidays, OSHC helps children thrive in every part of their day – not just during class time. “Outside School Hours Care is more than just wraparound care,” Catholic Early EdCare  director Chris Lugg said. “It’s a space where children can be themselves, try new things, build relationships and enjoy a strong sense of belonging.”

Delivered at 113 Brisbane Catholic Education schools, Catholic Early EdCare’s OSHC services support more than 31,000 children each year. Each program is tailored to the local school community and shaped by the interests and ideas of the children who attend.

Mornings offer a calm and welcoming environment to ease into the day, while afternoons provide a dynamic mix of play-based learning, physical activity, and creative expression. Children can explore their passions through engaging experiences in art, STEM, cooking, and outdoor play. “Our educators are deeply committed to creating a safe, inclusive and inspiring environment,” Mr Lugg said.

“We see daily how high-quality OSHC contributes to children’s social confidence, wellbeing, and overall engagement.”

Vacation Care adds even more colour to the experience, offering themed days, excursions and hands-on activities that spark joy and imagination. “Our school holiday programs are exciting and meaningful,” he said. “They give children a chance to unwind, connect, and have fun in ways they’ll talk about for weeks.”

Families are encouraged to visit their local OSHC service when considering a school, to experience the community firsthand and see the many ways children learn and grow beyond the school bell.
