That’s a wrap on the first week of kindergarten at Our Lady of Good Counsel Kindergarten.

Brand new kindergarten teacher and Gatton local, Miss Donna Marriott said there was lots of excitement and a few tears as the children formed new friendships, explored new surrounds and familiarised themselves with kindergarten routines.

“The first day of kindergarten can be overwhelming for children and parents but we focus on making them feel comfortable in their new environment and helping them adapt to the routines as quickly as possible,” Donna said.

“Our program operates on a five day fortnight so the children only spent two days at kindergarten in their first week, but we can already see some great friendships developing. By the end of day two the children were starting to explore our play spaces independently and particularly loved working together on construction.”

A qualified teacher with ten years experience in the local community under her belt, Donna and her teaching partner Lorraine are excited to get to know the children over the coming weeks and develop on their relationship with Our Lady of Good Counsel Primary School.

“For now I’m looking forward to getting to know all the children and families. I’m excited to start discovering the unique personalities we have here. Learning about what makes each child unique and their passions will be key as I set up the learning programs and environment for them. Throughout the year we are also excited to build on our relationship with Our Lady of Good Counsel Primary School, helping to prepare the kindergarten children for prep.”

Our Lady of Good Counsel Kindergarten offers a Queensland Government approved kindergarten program for children in the year before prep, with before and after kindergarten care also available for families. The kindergarten is co-located with Our lady of Good Counsel Catholic Primary School.
