Surrounded by peaceful bushland with an expansive play area, at Majella children enjoy a unique learning environment that encourages creativity and exploration. Our natural outdoor play spaces give children a sense of freedom and the opportunity try something new everyday. For instance, you might find them at work in the bush area caring for the plants and vegetable gardens or mastering their mud cake recipes in the mud kitchen.

We believe each child is unique and learns differently, so our educators will spend time getting to know your child and family so they can create engaging real-life learning experiences that capture your child’s interest and build their confidence. In kindergarten your child will also explore different languages and cultures as part of our language program. This program helps children appreciate diversity and sparks new learning adventures.

At Majella we care for children from six weeks and offer a Queensland Government approved kindergarten program for children in the year before prep. We are conveniently located on Maundrell Terrace with easy access to Gympie Road for families who commute to the CBD. We supply all meals, wipes, sunscreen and cot linen. All you need to bring is nappies, a hat and a spare change of clothes. We offer nutritious, age-specific meals for morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea. All meals are prepared on site daily by our cook and approved by Nutrition Australia. We are supportive of special dietary requirements and encourage families to discuss their child’s needs with us.

Meet Our Staff

Pania Mitchell

Director
I’ve been an early ed director for:

One year and worked in the industry for 11.5 years. I have been with Majella since 2011 during which time I have watched my own children grow here.

My favourite thing about being an early ed director is:

That you never stop learning! Within this role I learn something new everyday which I can use to grow our service and create new opportunities for children.

Something I like to tell all mums and dads is:

Try not to rush things. The first five years of your child’s life are a time of endless growth, new adventures and milestones. Enjoy every one of these.

My favourite way to relax is:

Spending time with my family, especially holidaying together!

Eunice Kamau

Kindergarten Teacher
I’ve been an early ed director for:

Five years.

My favourite thing about being an early ed director is:

Being kept on my toes as there is no one size fits all approach and things are changing constantly depending on the time, children’s moods, their skills and the experiences they are engaged in. I also enjoy learning with the children and being part of their journey.

Something I like to tell all mums and dads is:

Children learn everyday, be sure to provide them with new opportunities to do so.

My favourite way to relax is:

Taking nature walks.

Cultural immersion

With educators from a range of cultural backgrounds, the children at Majella frequently explore different languages and cultures. In 2019 our kindergarten children are finding out more about other languages and cultures as part of the Early Learning Languages Australia (ELLA) digital play based program.

ELLA introduces the children to a fictious group called the Polyglots. Following along on the Polyglots’ adventures, the children learn about different languages and cultures.

During a visit to the playroom the children learn greetings and farewells, during a visit to the circus the Polyglots teach the children the names of our different body parts and at the beach they learn about colours.

ELLA is a fun, play-based learning system that will help your child to begin to understand different cultures and appreciate diversity within our community.

Crafty babies

For children in our nursery exploring their emerging creativity is also an opportunity to develop their fine motor skills. The children love investigating the different textures and colours of the craft materials in the nursery. They especially enjoy playing with different types of card and paper, trying to tear it and creating collages by glueing pieces together. They love to explore different tools, learning to hold a pencil and make marks on paper or using paint brushes and glue sticks. Our educators are always on hand to provide guidance for children as they experience these things for the first time, encouraging their early attempts and sharing their delight in success.
