This Child Protection Week (1-7 September) Catholic Early EdCare is reaffirming its commitment to safeguarding children and young people, outlining a host of ways the organisation creates safe and supportive environments in which children can thrive.

Catholic Early EdCare Head of Safeguarding, Katie McGilvray said the safety and wellbeing of children was a top priority for the organisation and, through comprehensive training and robust policies, was committed to fostering a culture of safeguarding within its 132 South East Queensland services.

“We provide safeguarding induction training as well as regular ongoing training across all of our services,” said Mrs McGilvray.

“We ensure that every member of our team is aware of their legal obligations as mandatory reporters under the Child Protection Act 1999. We make sure they have a clear understanding of the procedures for reporting any suspicion that a child has suffered, is suffering, or is at risk of suffering significant harm, particularly when a parent is unwilling or unable to protect them.

“We also make sure our educators are equipped with the knowledge and tools necessary to create safe environments by facilitating forums for exchanging ideas, sharing experiences and staying informed on the latest developments in child protection. This collaborative approach contributes to better outcomes for all children and young people, especially those who have been harmed or are at risk of harm.”

Catholic Early EdCare has implemented comprehensive practices and policies designed to uphold the safety and wellbeing of all children and adults at risk within its care. These measures are continuously reviewed and updated to ensure they meet the highest standards and reflect the latest research and best practices in child protection.

At Catholic Early EdCare, we manage any safeguarding issues in accordance with our internal Child Safe Environment Policy and Procedure and Safeguarding Procedureand the following external resources:

Our safeguarding commitment at Catholic Early EdCare is also part of Centacare and the Archdiocese of Brisbane. The Archdiocese has zero tolerance for all forms of abuse and is committed to safeguarding everyone involved in its activities, ministries and services.

Catholic Early EdCare takes its responsibilities seriously. We want to assure all families that we are dedicated to creating a safe and supportive environment where children can thrive. Child Protection Week 2024 serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of this work and our ongoing commitment to safeguarding the future of our children.
