We are excited to have opened the doors to our kindergarten and outside school hours care services on the St Joseph’s College site in 2019.

At St Joseph’s College Kindergarten + Outside School Hours Care we believe each child is unique and learns differently, so our educators will spend time getting to know your child and family so that we can create engaging learning experiences that capture their interest and help them build new skills.

We offer a Queensland Government approved sessional kindergarten program. This program is taught by a university qualified early childhood teacher and children complete a five-day fortnight, during school hours and school terms.

During kindergarten your child will benefit from our close relationship with the school. They enjoy visits to the school library, prep classrooms and playgrounds and attending school events. During each visit your child will become more familiar with the school grounds and learn new skills such as how to use the water bubblers and where to find the toilets. Our educators will watch your child’s confidence grow as they become part of our broader school and parish community and prepare for prep.

Our outside school hours care offers before and after school care for children from kindergarten to grade seven. We offer a flexible and child initiated program with educators incorporating children’s ideas, cultures and interests when planning each day’s experiences. Our team will drop off and collect children from St Joseph’s College each day. Children are offered a healthy breakfast and after school snacks, which they help prepare.

Meet Our Staff

Amanda Cummings

Kindergarten Teacher

I’ve been an early ed teacher for:
A very long time. I first entered the industry working in long day care when I finished school and have worked as a kindergarten teacher since graduating university. During this time I had a hiatus from teaching to have and raise my three wonderful children.
My favourite thing about being an early ed teacher is:
I love every day in my Kindergarten classroom. It is always filled with fun, laughter, discovery, friendships, achievements, singing, bonding, growth and lots and lots of meaningful chatter!
Something I like to tell all mums and dads is:
Your child’s year at Kindergarten will be a year of growth and discovery. Our kindergarten program will be designed to ensure they are supported in all areas of their growth and well-being.
My favourite way to relax is:
I love to read a good book, on the beach or next to the pool – but that is a rare occurrence with three children so the next best thing is walking the dog with the family or watching our children play Saturday morning sport with a nice coffee.

Jenny Vitnell

Outside School Hours Care Coordinator

I’ve been an early ed coordinator for:
Over 5 years and in the early education industry for over 25 years.
My favourite thing about being an early ed coordinator is:
Seeing the difference I can make in young lives. I enjoy collaborating with the families and supporting them as parents/ carer’s by providing additional support when needed.
Something I like to tell all mums and dads is:
I see and care for their child, how I would like to see my child being cared for as a mum. I love to tell parents the little things that happen, such as an act of kindness by their child or how they contributed to our service that day.
My favourite way to relax is:
In the garden pottering around. I also love to read especially overlooking the water. I love home decorating as well and can often be found in second hand shops looking for restoration projects.

Before and after kindy care

Before and after kindy care is also available through our outside school hours care service. For families requiring additional hours of care in kindergarten it is available from 6:30am in the morning and until 6:00pm in the evening. Families will need to enrol in kindergarten and outside school hours care separately.

Building a camp fire

The children’s imagination was piqued during outdoor play when one child was discussing an upcoming camping trip with their family. Our educators took this opportunity to involve the children in play that inspired the children to build a pretend camp fire, hunting in our yard for the perfect rocks and sticks. The children then enjoyed sitting around the fire, sharing stories of their camping adventures and coming up with new ideas for play.
