We are excited to have opened the doors to our kindergarten and outside school hours care services on the St Joseph’s College site in 2019.

At St Joseph’s College Kindergarten + Outside School Hours Care we believe each child is unique and learns differently, so our educators will spend time getting to know your child and family so that we can create engaging learning experiences that capture their interest and help them build new skills.

We offer a Queensland Government approved sessional kindergarten program. This program is taught by a university qualified early childhood teacher and children complete a five-day fortnight, during school hours and school terms. Before and after kindergarten care is also available for all children.

During kindergarten your child will benefit from our close relationship with the school. They enjoy visits to the school library, prep classrooms and playgrounds and attending school events. During each visit your child will become more familiar with the school grounds and learn new skills such as how to use the water bubblers and where to find the toilets. Our educators will watch your child’s confidence grow as they become part of our broader school and parish community and prepare for prep.

Our outside school hours care offers before and after school care for children from kindergarten to grade six. We offer a flexible and child initiated program with educators incorporating children’s ideas, cultures and interests when planning each day’s experiences. Our team will drop off and collect children from St Joseph’s College each day. Children are offered a healthy breakfast and after school snacks, which they help prepare.

Meet Our Staff

Amanda Cummings

Kindergarten Teacher

I’ve been an early ed teacher for:
A very long time. I first entered the industry working in long day care when I finished school and have worked as a kindergarten teacher since graduating university. During this time I had a hiatus from teaching to have and raise my three wonderful children.
My favourite thing about being an early ed teacher is:
I love every day in my Kindergarten classroom. It is always filled with fun, laughter, discovery, friendships, achievements, singing, bonding, growth and lots and lots of meaningful chatter!
Something I like to tell all mums and dads is:
Your child’s year at Kindergarten will be a year of growth and discovery. Our kindergarten program will be designed to ensure they are supported in all areas of their growth and well-being.
My favourite way to relax is:
I love to read a good book, on the beach or next to the pool – but that is a rare occurrence with three children so the next best thing is walking the dog with the family or watching our children play Saturday morning sport with a nice coffee.

Lisa Nehring

Outside School Hours Care Coordinator

I’ve been an early ed coordinator:
Since April 2020 and have been in the early childhood education industry for over 22 years.
My favourite thing about being a coordinator is:
Watching the children interact with different experiences during the day and how they work, play and relax together.
Something I like to tell all mums and dads is:
We are here to help and support families as much as their children. We will get to know their child and their interests, to ensure that we provide an environment that enables them to unwind and relax and seek enjoyment through a variety of activities and experiences during their time with us.
My favourite way to relax is:
Travelling Australia, camping and four wheel driving with family and friends, enjoying a good book and crocheting.

Before and after kindy care

Before and after kindy care is also available through our outside school hours care service. For families requiring additional hours of care in kindergarten it is available from 6:30am in the morning and until 6:00pm in the evening. Families will need to enrol in kindergarten and outside school hours care separately.

Exploring construction

While our new community hub is being built the children have been surrounded by construction. It’s no surprise that they have become very interested in what is taking place in their own backyard. Their teachers saw this as an opportunity to tap into the children’s natural curiosity and create a unique learning experience. So they have been making regular visits to the construction site to watch the progress of the building and make observations about the changes taking place. They are extending on this in play, donning their high vis and safety equipment and creating their own construction zones in the sandpit. Their creativity continues to amaze their educators as they create something new everyday.

Building a camp fire

The children’s imagination was piqued during outdoor play when one child was discussing an upcoming camping trip with their family. Our educators took this opportunity to involve the children in play that inspired the children to build a pretend camp fire, hunting in our yard for the perfect rocks and sticks. The children then enjoyed sitting around the fire, sharing stories of their camping adventures and coming up with new ideas for play.
