At St Joseph’s College Kindergarten + Outside School Hours Care we believe each child is unique and learns differently, so our educators will spend time getting to know your child and family so that we can create engaging learning experiences that capture their interest and help them build new skills.

We offer a Queensland Government approved sessional kindergarten program. This program is taught by a university qualified early childhood teacher and children complete a five-day fortnight, during school hours and school terms. Before and after kindergarten care is also available for all children.

During kindergarten your child will benefit from our close relationship with the school. They enjoy visits to the school library, prep classrooms and playgrounds and attending school events. During each visit your child will become more familiar with the school grounds and learn new skills such as how to use the water bubblers and where to find the toilets. Our educators will watch your child’s confidence grow as they become part of our broader school and parish community and prepare for prep.

Our outside school hours care offers before and after school care for children from kindergarten to grade six. We offer a flexible and child initiated program with educators incorporating children’s ideas, cultures and interests when planning each day’s experiences. Our team will drop off and collect children from St Joseph’s College each day. Children are offered a healthy breakfast and after school snacks, which they help prepare.

Meet Our Staff

Michelle Allsopp

Centre Manager

I’ve been an early ed Centre Manager since:

31st May 2021

My favourite thing about being an early ed Centre Manager is:

Getting to know all the amazing children and families that attend our service and ensuring fun is had by all each day. Watching the children grow from the start in Prep and working their way up to year 6 is an honour.

Something I like to tell all mums and dads is:

We are here for their children and will always ensure they are happy; and we will be here for them when they need.

My favourite way to relax is:

Spending time with my family and fur babies.

Amanda Cummings

Kindergarten Teacher

I’ve been an early ed teacher for:
A very long time. I first entered the industry working in long day care when I finished school and have worked as a kindergarten teacher since graduating university. During this time I had a hiatus from teaching to have and raise my three wonderful children.
My favourite thing about being an early ed teacher is:
I love every day in my Kindergarten classroom. It is always filled with fun, laughter, discovery, friendships, achievements, singing, bonding, growth and lots and lots of meaningful chatter!
Something I like to tell all mums and dads is:
Your child’s year at Kindergarten will be a year of growth and discovery. Our kindergarten program will be designed to ensure they are supported in all areas of their growth and well-being.
My favourite way to relax is:
I love to read a good book, on the beach or next to the pool – but that is a rare occurrence with three children so the next best thing is walking the dog with the family or watching our children play Saturday morning sport with a nice coffee.

Before and after kindy care

Before and after kindy care is also available through our outside school hours care service. For families requiring additional hours of care in kindergarten it is available from 6:30am in the morning and until 6:00pm in the evening. Families will need to enrol in kindergarten and outside school hours care separately.

A moment of acknowledgement

Each afternoon as the children arrive from school we take a moment for quiet reflection as a group. The children take turns leading the group in an acknowledgment of country and a prayer. This is an opportunity for the children to explore their own spirituality and develop an understanding and appreciation of other spiritualities and cultures.

Growing creatively

The kindergarten children regularly explore their creativity drawing inspiration from the natural environment surrounding them. After picking and arranging sunflowers the children created their own representations of the flower arrangement using paint and other creative mediums. These are wonderful opportunities to build on the children’s natural curiosity to explore nature and encourage them to express themselves creatively.
